Research Work
This doctoral dissertation explores the mechanisms through which the state shapes economic development iChina and Vietnam, focusing particularly on the role of public and development banking. Building on the theory of real competition, it examines how state controlled financial institutions operate as key instruments of industrial coordination, capital allocation, and macroeconomic regulation. The study argues that public banking systems are not merely financial intermediaries but central components of state capacity, mediating the equalization of profit rates and stabilizing investment during periods of profitability decline. Through a comparative analysis of institutional structures and policy frameworks, the research identifies how China and Vietnam deploy public banking to sustain capital accumulation and industrial upgrading. By linking financial governance to the dynamics of competition and profitability, the dissertation contributes to a renewed understanding of state-led development in late industrializing economies.
