POLICY ENVIRONMENT AND FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE: THE CASE OF RICE SECTOR IN SIERRA LEONE

Research Work

As a public servant working in a policy environment, my overall objective of the research is to understand why there is low penetration of large scale Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the rice sector and how to improve livelihood, food security and climate change resilience on rural family households in Sierra Leone. Moreover to understand the general policy environment in Sierra Leone and examine whether the policy environment is favorable for FDI in the rice sector. The outcome will aim to increase income of smallholder farmers through the promotion of agriculture as a business so as to guide policy formulation and government intervention to stimulate investment and make the agricultural sector on rice production more attractive to large-scale FDI.
